Candle Care & Safety
At AMÉLY, we want every candle you burn to be as safe as it is beautiful. This guide covers everything you need to know — from your first burn to safe storage between uses — so you can enjoy your candle with complete peace of mind.
Before Your First Burn
Your AMÉLY candle arrives with the wick already trimmed and ready to light — no tools needed for your first use. For the best experience, let the first burn last long enough for the melted wax pool to reach the edges of the container (typically 1–2 hours, depending on size). This “full melt pool” prevents tunneling, so your candle burns evenly for its entire life.
Wick Care & Trimming
Before each burn after the first, trim the wick to ¼ inch if it's a cotton wick, or ⅛ inch if it's a wood wick, and remove any trimmed debris from the wax pool. A properly trimmed wick keeps the flame steady and controlled, and helps minimize smoke and soot — our soy wax already burns cleaner than traditional paraffin, and a fresh trim keeps it that way. General Safety Instructions
Our candles are handcrafted products intended for their ordinary household use. To protect your safety and the safety of your home, please follow these instructions whenever you burn an AMÉLY CANDLES product:
- Always burn your candle within sight. Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Place the candle on a stable, flat, heat-resistant surface, away from drafts, vents, and air currents.
- Keep burning candles at least 12 inches (30 cm) away from anything that can catch fire, including curtains, furniture, books, paper, and decorations.
- Keep candles out of reach of children and pets at all times.
- Do not burn a candle for longer than 4 hours at a time.
- Never touch or move a candle while the wax is liquid or the container is hot.
When to Stop Burning
Discontinue use once approximately ½ inch (1.3 cm) of wax remains, or if the wick becomes off-center, the flame becomes unusually large, or the container shows any cracks or damage.
Storage & Care Between Burns
Store your candle away from direct sunlight and heat sources between burns, and keep the wick trimmed even when not in use so it's ready for its next burn.
